The Travelers Companies is one of the largest insurance financial companies in the United States and is listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. It took its modern name in 2007; its main predecessors date back to the middle of the 19th century. The company operates primarily in the United States.
The market capitalization of The Travelers Companies as of August 2016 was 34 billion. The company issued 1.755 billion shares; as of February 2016, it had 47,400 shareholders. Banking services are provided in France, Belgium and Germany and generate about half a billion in revenue. Net investment income amounted to € 16.6 billion.
Jay Steven Fishman — from December 2015 until his death on August 18, 2016 served as executive chairman of the board, from 2004 to 2015 was CEO, from 2005 to 2015 was the chairman of the board. Born November 4, 1954 in New York, the descendant of immigrants from Eastern Europe. Graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He worked for Primerica prior to its merger with Travelers, after the merger became CEO of The Travelers Group. In 2001 he moved to The St. Paul Companies retained this post after merging with Travelers and was the main initiator of this merger.
